What’s in a Name?

Wellington Wind SymphonyBy now we suspect you’ve noticed that the Wellington Winds is now the Wellington Wind Symphony. A small change, but an important one. Here’s why we changed our name, and why we chose the one we did:

  • The name Wellington Winds was a bit confusing to people unfamiliar with who we are. It did not describe our size or instrumentation in any direct way. The name required too much explanation for potential new audience members.
  • Wellington Winds did not give a hint about the style of music one might expect to hear at a concert.
  • Wellington Wind Symphony more clearly describes the instrumentation and the style of music one might expect to hear.
  • The name Wellington Wind Symphony honours our strong history and reputation as one of Canada’s finest wind ensembles.
