WWS Concert Oct 27 2019

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid!

This concert focuses on music inspired by the many traditions of Halloween; ghosts, magic, witches, cauldrons, and costumes. The composers chosen are known for their success in writing dramatic pieces for the concert hall and the opera stage. Mr. Chung is taking us to the dark side (but only for part of the concert) with Modest Mussorgsky, Night on Bald Mountain; Hector Berlioz, March to the Scaffold from Symphonie fantastique; and Paul Dukas, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Also on the roster is American composer Steven Reineke. Reineke, somewhat new to the scene, has gained acclaim for his tone poem The Witch and the Saint. It tells a tale of twin sisters born in 16th century Germany, one of whom is believed to be a witch. By way of contrast, we present Sergei Prokofiev’s music from the ballet Cinderella (transcribed by David Arthur), and Ralph Vaughan WIlliams’s beloved English Folk Song Suite.

Tickets available at the door, or online, below.
