The Wellington Wind Symphony’s concert season runs from fall to spring each year. For the 2018-19 season we will be presenting one performance only of each of our four concert programs. All four concerts are at Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.
Sweet Modern Melodies
Sunday Apr 14 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Music Director Candidate – Andrew Chung
Mezzo-soprano – Jennifer Enns Modolo
Focusing on music written originally for band, we offer a program by contemporary and established North American composers. Andrew Boysen, Jr. and Julie Giroux are both in the modern camp. Their compositions (Boysen’s Song for Lyndsay, and Giroux’s One Life Beautiful) are lyrical, and express deep emotion. Also on this concert is Vincent Persichetti’s well-loved Symphony No. 6, for Band, Op. 69 (1956). Persichetti, who was active during the mid-twentieth century, describes his music as “graceful and gritty.” He was widely influential as a composer and a teacher. Finally, we are thrilled to have acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Jennifer Enns Modolo, as our guest soloist. Jennifer has delighted audiences throughout Canada, and internationally.
