The Wellington Wind Symphony’s concert season runs from fall to spring each year.
It’s that time of year again! Join us for our ever popular Christmas concert. We have chosen a ‘feast’ of beautiful music to celebrate the season. This year our guests, the Inter Mennonite Children’s Choir will perform various seasonal favourites alone and with the Winds. The wind ensemble will interpret Coventry Carol/Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring (arr. by Calvin Custer); Alfred Reed, Laudamus Te; and Frederick Delius, Sleigh Ride (transcribed by David Arthur). Works by two interesting contemporary composers, Randol Alan Bass and David Lovrien, are included. Bass, recognised as an arranger and a vocalist, is now attracting attention for his original compositions. His setting of Clement Moore’s poem The Night Before Christmas for wind ensemble and narrator sparkles with originality. David Lovrien, who has been described as “a musician’s musician,” is a pianist, saxophonist, and composer. His funny and surprising take on traditional Christmas music in Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass is delightful.
